OSK Investment Challenge

OSK Investment Bank is organizing an online trading competition that allows college students to participate without the risk of losing money from 16th August to 1st October 2010. Each of you will be given RM100,000 in virtual game money to trade once they registered themselves online for FREE.

The grand prize and weekly winner will be picked based on the highest absolute portfolio value in game money at the end of the competition.

The prizes are really attractive:

1st prize - RM25,000

2nd prize - RM10,000

3rd prize - RM5,000

Bonus prize: Internship opportunity at OSK Investment Bank.

The 2 weekly prizes are ACER Aspire One AOD260 Netbook (worth RM1,299) for the two portfolios with the highest absolute gain in that week.

Upcoming events to take note of

Hello fellow accountants-to-be;

Hope everything is settled down for your new semester. But first up here are a few updates from our head of department of Sunway. Do take note and mark your calendars 'cause these are a few interesting events.

The Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) will be having a talk held on 29th September 2010 from 12pm to 1pm. It will be a talk on how our ACCA members can be registered as a chartered accountant and how they can update themselves with the latest accounting standards and trends.

We will be having a Career Day on 30th September 2010 from 10am to 4pm. This event will most likely to have the Big Four companies (i.e. KPMG, PWC, Deloitte, E&Y) to have a booth respectively. Students who are keen to join them on their internship programme or who are graduating soon can come for an interview on that day.

These are the two latest events coming up. Till then, GOOD LUCK for your exam results which will be released on 23rd August 2010. Have a nice week ahead.

Student Engage - Examiner's Special

Thanks to our Head of Department, she found this article quite attractive for ACCA students like us. This is taken partly from the Student Engage article. Read more for full details;

For the first time ever, ACCA is giving students the chance to submit questions and hear directly from two of our examiners via Student Engage - the Examiner Special. ACCA students have been asking for this and we are delighted to give them what they want.

The webcast will take place on Tuesday 28 September from 10.00am (UK time).

There will be two one-hour specials, featuring Ann Irons on the Fundamentals level and Steve Skidmore on the Professional level. They will tell students what the examiners are looking for, give advice on tackling exam questions and how students can achieve the best marks, plus other tips for exam success.

Students will have the opportunity to submit their questions to the examiners beforehand, and a selection of these will be answered during the presentation. Students can post their questions by visiting the website at www.accaglobal.com\studentengage.

Please actively promote this event to your students by encouraging them to post questions and to watch the presentations on 28 September. ACCA tutors are also welcome - so why not tune in too.

CAREER FAIR

Its been a long time since SJAC blogged in this blogosphere. Everyone has been so busy and this blog was kept in the dark. However, we will relive this blog as soon as possible.

But first up, SJAC is organising a trip to the ACCA Career Fair held in Crown Plaza Mutiara KL. It is a great opportunity for all CAT/ACCA students to find job and to learn how far can this career line bring you to. It will be held this Saturday (10th July 2010). The itinerary for the career fair is as follows;

6.00am Depart from Sunway College, JB
8.00am Breakfast at Ayer Keroh
8. 30am Resume journey
11.30am Arrive at Crowne Plaza Mutiara, KLVisitation at booth
Lunch
4.00pm Depart from KL 6.00pm Dinner at Ayer Keroh toll rest stop
9.00pm Arrive at Sunway College JB

Do take note that S-JAC is only providing the transport. Thus, students who are involved in this career fair trip should reach the meeting point before the designated time.

Dress code: Smart casual – shirt/Polo T-shirt with long pants/skirt. No slippers allowed.

For those who are keen to go for interview, please bring few copies of your resume, passport-sized photographs and cert/result slips.

Please submit the consent letter latest by this Thursday(8/7/10). You may collect the form from Wei Ling or Ms.Nitia from Sunway College JB's admin.
